20th Century Fox launches early digital release of 'Prometheus'
Fox is hoping to boost the sales of their movie "Prometheus" by releasing it early. They will release it digitally, three weeks earlier than its DVD/ Blu-ray release. It will be under $15, a big discount compared to buying a DVD or Blu-ray. It will be sold through Itunes, YouTube, and Google Play. Fox is the sixth major studio to rent and sell their movies digitally before their DVD/ Blu-ray release.
This article important, because it shows the struggle of a dying format. Let's face it, DVDs and Blu-rays are a dying format. In this day and age, nobody likes to keep a physical copy of a movie that takes up space, except for a select few. I mean I realize that "Prometheus" was an extremely bad movie, and that Fox will try to milk as much as they can from it, but that just isn't right to spur the death of a format.
As a consumer, the availability of DVDs and Blu-rays is dwindling. With more and more cheap online downloads of movies, people just don't want hard copies. People are just too stuck in their digital lifestyles to accept something that seems old-fashioned or outdated. There is no money to be made in DVDs and Blu-rays in this day and age so movie studios are really cutting back on them.
Reading this article, I wondered how long it would be until DVDs and Blu-rays stopped being made all together. What day and age will we have all our movies streamed to our computer? One final thing, who the hell wants to see prometheus anyway? It literally was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
personally i liked Prometheus i loved how it was kind of a prequel to aliens but not really. besides that Dvd'd are a dying format people don't want to sit down at home and watch movies when they can see them on the go.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know a single person who watched a movie on anything but their TV or computer. So I don't know what you think is on the go, but it doesn't really seem like a good idea. Face it, you don't want to watch a movie on your ipod.
DeletePrometheus to me was a good movie but that story just reminds me to much of something else and that kills it for me . But I love blue rays but dvds i to feel are dying.
